Today’s vExpert Spotlight interview is with Joseph Griffiths. Joseph hails from the Columbus, OH area where he is making VMware magic happen for IBM. He is also our very 1st VMware vExpert that is also a VMUG Leader, and VCDX to be on interviewed for the #vExpertSpotlight! Joseph is VCDX #143, to be exact.

What was your 1st IT gig?
I worked as a systems administrator at a commuter college as help desk for computer science labs (mostly Sun systems).
What is your current job title and role?
I am currently a senior VMware Architect with IBM. I spend most of my days mixed between architecting solutions and dealing with scalability issues encountered in large organizations.
How many years have you been a vExpert?
2 years
What other IT Communities are you involved with or frequent?
VMUG & the VMware communities
What advice would you give to others involved in the VMware community who are looking at becoming a vExpert?
Give back to this great community, get involved in your local VMUG and share your knowledge. Blog your experiences and challenges letting others learn from your mistakes. Answer questions on VMware’s official forums.
Do you currently have a Home Lab environment?
I do run a home lab based upon HP xw6600’s with 32GB of ram each. All nodes have 120GB SSD’s with (2) 500GB spinning disks for VSAN. I also have two Synology NAS devices.
How do you use VMware products or services in your daily work life?
I use most products from the VMware suite almost every day other than desktop products.
What certifications do you currently hold (if any)?
VCDX-DV, VCP-Cloud, RHCE
What’s your go to song or music genre when work stress becomes too much?
Classical or 90’s music.
Tell us something about yourself that the community may not already know.
I was raised in Germany for 9 years but never learned German.
