What was your 1st IT gig?
My first IT job was as a Software Developer for an Insurance Company and I got involved with data transfers via a modem (9600 bits/second) in place of cutting a tape between banks and our company. This is how I got into data communications.
What is your current job title and role?
Currently, I am a software developer for networking equipment. My title is Sr. Network Engineer. My day job is not directly involved with VMware technologies.
How many years have you been a vExpert?
1st time
What other IT Communities are you involved with or frequent?
I am also involved with OpenStack where I blog and commit simple fixes.
What advice would you give to others involved in the VMware community who are looking at becoming a vExpert?
“Go for it” – I 1st learned about the VMware vExpert program from Tintri & their Polo shirts tailor made for vExperts with their Twitter handles. This is a good community that we should get involved with, just like VMUG. It is all about sharing what we know and growing as a community.
Do you currently have a Home Lab environment?
I am still working on a home lab. The Ravello Systems for AutoLab seems a good way to host a VMware lab.
How do you use VMware products or services in your daily work life?
The company that I am working at is a technology partner with VMware and we have a test lab with VMware products.
What certifications do you currently hold (if any)?
MCSA -Windows Server 2012, VCP-DCV 4 and 5, VCP-Cloud
Tell us something about yourself that the community may not already know.
My company does not sponsor nor endorse my involvement with the VMware community. I got involved because I wanted to grow as a community.
I learn by sharing (sounds contradicting but this is how I learn). As a software developer, I stepped out of my comfort zone and started looking at virtualization and cloud technologies on my own and learned that community was here to help me to grow. This is why I got involved with VMware, the best place to start is VMUG. I am one of the VMUG leaders for the Ventura County VMUG.
Do you have a blog that you would like to share?
