Today’s vExpert Spotlight interview is with Shawn Cannon. Shawn hails from the Atlanta, GA area where he is a SysAdmin and 50% of the blogging power behind vBrainstorm.com with Roger Lund. Well there I go again, giving away trade secrets and possible Interview questions. Doh!
I recently found out that Shawn is quite the busy guy who is also involved with the vFootball event at VMworld in San Francisco. Well I am glad we had found time to talk prior to VMworld. I am also looking forward to meeting Shawn as we are currently just virtual friends on Twitter 🙂

What was your 1st IT gig?
My first foray into an IT role was at a community bank where I was working in the bookkeeping department. Our IT vendor came in to upgrade our Netware servers and they asked me if I wanted to be the Systems Admin.
What is your current job title and role?
I am currently a Systems Administrator, Sr at Gladiator Technology, a ProfitStars Solution. ProfitStars is part of Jack Henry & Associates. My role has just recently changed but I have been supporting our VMware infrastructure and our SAN as well.
How many years have you been a vExpert?
3 years
What advice would you give to others involved in the VMware community who are looking at becoming a vExpert?
Be active as a blogger and on social networks like Twitter and share your work with VMware and virtualization. It is the sharing of knowledge to the community that gets you noticed and helps you get chosen as a vExpert.
Do you currently have a Home Lab environment?
I do not have a lab at home. 🙁
How do you use VMware products or services in your daily work life?
95% of our servers are virtualized using VMware. We use vCenter, ESXi and Site Recovery Manager
What certifications do you currently hold (if any)?
VCP-DCV, VCAP-DCA, Microsoft IT Professional
Tell us something about yourself that the community may not already know.
One of the things I do for fun is investigating the paranormal, aka Ghost Hunting.
What’s your go to song or music genre when work stress becomes too much?
I listen to both movie soundtracks and Christian Rock when i need to de-stress!
