Information We Collect
Analytics
This site uses Google Analytics, set up through the ExactMetrics plugin, to understand how visitors use the site: pages viewed, time on site, general location, device and browser type. Google Analytics uses cookies to collect this information. It’s used in aggregate to improve the site, not to identify you personally. You can opt out of Google Analytics tracking across all websites using Google’s own browser opt-out add-on.
Comments
Comments are open on blog posts. When you leave a comment, we collect the name, email, and website URL you provide, along with your IP address and browser user agent string to help detect spam. Your email address is checked against Gravatar to display a profile picture if you have one; see Gravatar’s own privacy policy for details. Comments are retained indefinitely once approved, so we can recognize follow-up comments automatically.
Scheduling a Call
If you book a call through the scheduling link on this site, that booking is handled directly by Google Calendar’s appointment scheduling. Any name, email, or other details you provide there are collected and governed by Google’s own privacy policy, not by this site directly.
Embedded Content
A few older blog posts include embedded YouTube videos. If you play one, YouTube (Google) may set cookies and collect data about that interaction under its own privacy policy, the same as if you’d visited YouTube directly.
Cookies
Beyond the analytics cookies described above, this site uses standard WordPress cookies: if you comment and choose to save your name, email, and website for next time, a cookie holds that for one year. If you log in to the site as an administrator, WordPress sets its normal login and session cookies.
Who We Share Data With
Google (Analytics and Calendar), Automattic (Gravatar), and this site’s hosting provider (Bluehost) each process data as described above under their own privacy policies. We don’t sell or share your data with anyone else.
SMS / Text Messaging
Nigel Hickey Consulting operates a text messaging service that lets a user text a photo to a dedicated phone number and receive an AI drafted social media caption in reply. Phone numbers and message content collected through this service are used only to operate that service, draft the requested caption, and deliver it back to the sender. We do not sell or share your SMS opt-in data or personal information with third parties for marketing purposes. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP at any time to opt out, or HELP for help.
Your Rights
If you’ve left a comment or contacted us directly, you can ask what personal data we hold and request that it be deleted, aside from anything we’re required to keep for legal or security reasons. Reach out using the contact info below.
Children’s Privacy
This site isn’t directed at children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect personal information from them.
Changes to This Policy
This policy may be updated as the site changes, for example when new tools like an email newsletter go live. The date at the top reflects the most recent update.
