Today’s vExpert Spotlight interview is with Ed Morgan. Ed joins us today from across the pond…wait, I actually don’t really like that term. My parents are from the UK and I have NEVER heard them utter that phrase! Ok, let’s reset. Ed joins me today to talk from East London, UK.

Ed is a Data Center Architect for an MSP out of London. This is his breakdown…

What was your 1st IT gig?

I managed to blag myself a week long HTML contract to help out at a local IT consultancy firm, whilst I was there their Exchange server blew up and I pulled an all nighter with the IT Manager to recover their email. Off the back of that they gave me a permanent position and I transitioned into taking ownership of the internal IT infrastructure.

What is your current job title and role?

I’m a Flexpod Architect for ANS Group in London. I’m currently lead architect for a £10+ million datacenter refresh with an NHS trust that should keep me occupied for the next year or so.

How many years have you been a vExpert?

This is my first year!

What advice would you give to others involved in the VMware community who are looking at becoming a vExpert?

Keep putting content out and getting involved in the community.

What other IT Communities are you involved with or frequent?

I’m also a Cisco Champion, and a member of the NetApp Advocacy Program (#NetAppATeam).  I’m also relatively active on Reddit – /r/sysadmin and /r/NetApp

What certifications do you currently hold (if any)?

Cisco Data Center Architecture Design Specialist
Cisco Unified Computing Technology Design Specialist
NetApp Accredited Storage Architect
NetApp NCIE: SAN

How do you use VMware products or services in your daily work life?

I work for a VMware Premier Partner, and vSphere tends to be our hypervisor of choice. I tend to focus on the data centre virtualisation side of the house, so tend to have a lot of design work going on that’s utilising vSphere 6, SRM, and I’m starting to play with the vRealize suite a lot more as of late.

Do you currently have a Home Lab environment?

I’ve got a cloud based vSphere 6 lab in Ravello. (Niiiiiice!)

Tell us something about yourself that the community may not already know.

I’m a former British soldier.

What’s your go to song or music genre when work stress becomes too much?

I listen to a lot of alt.rock, punk, and hardcore. According to last.fm my current favourites are The Gaslight Anthem, The Afghan Whigs, Tool, and Pearl Jam.
